A month ago we found a stray 2 month old puppy across from AmyâÂÂs Donuts in the âÂÂSpringsâÂÂ. I couldnâÂÂt just leave it. Also a month ago I stopped at a vet nearby my home for convenience only not because I knew or trust them.
At first, an emergency or walk in visit was 60+ for a visit. That was my first red flag. IâÂÂm not new to training or taking care of animals. I trained as a vet tech in 1997. My partial diagnosis when I stopped in was possibly mange when I made an appt since the fee was lower. Missed appt. so had to do a walk in since another two weeks down the drain.
The day we took puppy home a month ago we did a peroxide and borax dip or bath and sponged and poured on. We did 3 of these in 3 days. So mites were killed if he had them.
I also bought medicated shampooing him daily.
When I finally got into this clinic, I went in with a new possibly diagnosis, ringworm. Since both are common in puppies with suppressed immune systems, I figured they would have all that was needed to make a proper diagnosis and form a solid treatment plan stronger than what I was already doing.
All I got was, âÂÂIt looks like ringworm.â â I think itâÂÂs ringworm.â Well it also looks like mange tooâ¦Then I was offered a lime dip.
That was my second and third red flag. IâÂÂve had some really great vets in the past and present. IâÂÂm not impressed with their core care regimen.
Well come to find out today they do not offer lime dips, and of course the so called veterinarian who treated the puppy was not all that concerned about cleaning thoroughly the room after his visit. As the other veterinarian I spoke with today 5/15/2019 she exclaimed it wasnâÂÂt something they saw much of.
They must not be well versed in the troubles with ringworm obviously. It is highly common.
I wouldnâÂÂt recommend this clinic to anyone who cares about their pets or even caring for a stray or abandoned animal.
They did not diagnose anything. The treatment plan, was MY plan I had already been doing. I went to them and trusted them for help and care for this puppy.
Again no clarification or proper diagnostics was used to diagnose ringworm. She did scrape for mites, but no mites, because I had killed them with the dips weeks previous. All she exclaimed was bathe him 4 x weekly. To me and my daughter who was also there and heard her, it sounded like she didnâÂÂt know what she was talking about at all.
IâÂÂm physically disabled, and all this strained has caused weakness to my already disabled back and neck, which makes my legs weak, and I went down. I told the veterinarian that I was disabled, they had no care whatsoever.
No thanks to them, the pup is recovering beautifully. DO NOT TAKE YOU LOVED PETS OR ANY PET OR ANIMAL TO THIS CLINIC. They really are all about the money. That is very obvious.
I called for an emergency appointment, and they have walk in hours every day from 2-4 pm. Awesome. I will definitely tell all my friends and relatives.
The absolute best clinic in Pueblo. Sometimes there is a wait but they have always seen my pets.

I had an emergency with my dog and they were easy to work with and treated my dog like family. Highly Recommend!
They were quick to see my pet, friendly and knowledgeable.
I have been there with my pup twice now in life or death situations and they have seen me right away and worked with me to save my dogs life. Once every other vet just wanted to put her down, not them they saved her and for that they will forever have my business and gratitude.
You try to call at 8am, their listed business hours, and all you get is their after hours answering service. Still trying to get an appointment and its going on 8:30.
I had gone to PueboSmallAnimalClinic since we moved here in 1986. Dr. Krause and Dr. Lorenson were the absolute best. I don't care what animal we took in there if we were stuck seeing Dr. Smith he was (I'll be polite) a jerk. No I'll be truthful an A$$. He didn't like my Old English Sheepdog, hated my Dobermans, my Cocker Spaniel had pups, she was a horrible mother, took them up to PSAC in a emergency, to save the new puppies, charged us a fortune to be told they werent worth saving. They all died!! 8 of them. He hated our children's kittens, I personally don't know why he became a Vet. I always ALWAYS asked (BEGGED) to see Dr. Krause or Dr. Lorenson ONLY. I was always stuck with Dr. Smith. There was always something wrong with our pets, THERE WASN'T, I could go on & on forever, but unless you can see Dr. Lorenson ONLY, I wouldn't take a dead ANT there. We finally got so fed up with Smith, that we switched to another vet years ago, lets just say out on the Mesa, Where they love your pets as much as you do, condider them your babies like we all do of our animals, they treat you right, they explain everything to you and offer options. Fantastic vets out there. The front "girls" are Fabulous. Nice, loving and caring. As I said, Dr. Lorenson your fantastic!! Dr. Smith calling you a jerk and an A$$ don't even tell the true meaning of what you are. I again, wouldn't take a dead ANT to Dr. Smith. Many other vets in this town. It's too bad when Dr. Krause retired, he didn't fire Dr. Smith. 1 star doesn't even give PSAC the real grading. Minus 10 might. I stand by every word I've said it's the truth. It's sad, but oh so true. I feel bad for Dr. Lorenson. He was such a cool vet.
I've been taking my pets here for years I had no problems until there made this one front desk lady the manager since then I've noticed that they no longer care about your pets it's more about the money and as soon as you enter it smells inside they really went downhill my mother took one of our dogs in and we went to the front desk after they treated our dog I didn't know she owed them money and didn't pay it I asked them before hand if it's ok to bring our dog in because I don't get paid for two more days they said it was fine but when I went to give her my information she started making a huge scene. Yelling at me for not paying the bill on time and it was past due I go I didn't know that then all of the sudden she goes are you this person I go no I'm the daughter she goes then I don't need to be talking to you then turns and starts yelling at my mother and asks her when is she going to pay her over due bill my mother goes I don't work anymore because I am sick and can no longer work we were a little short on money that day thank goodness another customer felt bad for us and helped us pay for some of the bill because we just had to pay for the meds we left I called to file a complaint but when the manager got on the phone she started yelling. Me as well and didn't let me explain the situation she was more ruder then the other lady after that I went in and switched our account to my name. Then she finally let me pay when I got paid I understand my mother owed the clinic money but that was completely uncalled for you they didn't need to treat us like dirt we have been loyal customers for years but since that happened I give the clinic one star for rude customer service it seems you only care about the money and less about the animals. Start treating your customers with more respect and kindness and please start cleaning up in there and maybe I'll give you four stars it's truly sad I used to love taking my pets there now I'm thinking about switching to a different vet
I have been with PSAC for almost 17 years. So it is sad and hard for me to say that their business has really gone down Hill. They used to be about your pets and the animals but now their nothing but about the money! My 9 year old Pug went in for an exam which I was told he was due for his vaccinations. I know that he has to have his rabies vaccine, but he was also given his distemper and parvo. Dr. Smith never asked me if I wanted the distemper and parvo vaccine. He just gave it to my dog without my permission. Later that night my Pug had an allergic reaction and had to be rushed to the Emergency Vet. The next day I called to let them know what had happened and let's just it didn't end well. Because my pug was given both rabies and the distemper and parvo I don't know which vaccine it was that gave him the allergic reaction. And yet they say that their not reliable for what happened; so the manufacturer is? How's that when it was Dr. Smith that ejected the vaccine into my dog not the manufacturer. I think that all the Doctors need to be more educated on vaccines and feline diabetes but that's another story! PSAC lost a good customer, I hope this review is helpful and keeps other aminals from beinging over vaccinated.
I have been going to the Pueblo Small Animal Clinic for years. The staff is always friendly. Dr. Smith and Dr. Lorensen are both knowledgeable and have taken great care of my pets.
I have been taking my dog there for over a year now but, lately I've been noticing that the staff there is not very nice and careless. They have awful customer service starting with the women that work at the front desk to some of the vet technicians- with the exception of the main doctors they are always kind. I called and explained the symptoms my dog was having (he was just a little fatigued, nothing too serious) to see if I can make an appointment for a check-up for that evening but the women on the phone said I had to immediately bring my dog in (made me feel scared like there was something horribly wrong with my dog) and that they didn't have appointments available until the following Monday. I tried to explain to her that I didn't want to just pay a 40 dollar walk-in fee because it wasn't like my dog was dying I just noticed he was feeling a little down but she basically said that if I didn't want to bring him as an emergency then that was my problem. I wasn't going to wait four days for them them to see my dog so, I proceeded to taking my dog in as I got off the phone- from the minute I got there until the time I left, there was absolutely no one in the waiting room, there was only one sick dog they were treating at the moment. Now, don't get me wrong, I'd pay any amount of money in order for my dog to get better but I know when it's something serious and when it's not, in this case my dog wasn't showing signs of pain or like he was dying. I knew it was unnecessary for me to get charged a walk-in fee when I could of just made an appointment for a check-up. Come to find out my dog just had gas and was bloated from the food change I did earlier in the week... I am definitely going to switch vets!
When I took my beloved dog to this clinic with a spinal problem, I was never told how dangerous the procedure I was advised to have my dog undergo was. The procedure was not completed and he was not monitored correctly when coming out of the deep anesthesia. When someone from the staff went to check on him he was dead. This was complete negligence and I would never, under any circumstances take another animal to this place.
Dr. Smith and his staff was exceptional!! i took my female cat in on an emergency basis and got the best care for her possible. I knew all of the costs up front and they are VERY affordiable and professional. I was very pleased and will be back :)
Have been taking our pets to Pueblo Small Animal Clinic for more than 10 years and They are the best! They care for and love our pets as if they were their own. I can't say enough good things. Thank you Doctors and Staff.
Fabulous group of professionals! They take excellent care of your pets. We have a dog with a multiple of problems and they continuely keep in contact with us and our specialty vet in Colo Springs. They treat my dog with the same love and caring as they would their own pet. Due to their reputation it can be difficult to schedule an appointment..but walk-ins have great service too!
