Unwilling to help Strays

A very friendly stray dog was wondering around my neighborhood. The dog was micro-chipped and neutered and had previously been to Emerson Vet Clinic. After 3 days of trying to find the owners I decided to see if a local rescue agency could take the dog. The shelter said they would take the dog if he had a Rabbi's shot. I called Noah's Animal Hospital and asked if they would give the dog a Rabi's shot at a discounted price and they refused. The receptionist, Tiffany, was unwilling to even ask the vet if he would be willing to do this at a reduced price. She said their was a law that states rabi's shots cannot be given without an exam. That's great but I didn't realize the law prevented Doctor's from setting their own prices. Ugg Whatever happened to people helping strays.

Business Response04/26/2010

We understand your frustration and realize you were just trying to do the right thing for a stray dog, but please try to understand our perspective. If we cut our prices sufficiently to satisfy everyone who needs us but can't afford our services, then we would not be able to afford the staffing and equipment necessary to provide our 24 hour medical services, let alone stay in business. We face multiple situations every day in which a pet owner needs pet care but cannot afford it. We wish we could be like public human hospitals that have funding and resources to help when patient finances are limited. However, no matter how deeply committed to our mission and our patients we are, our doctors and staff cannot possibly loan everyone with financial need the money to pay their bill. Nor does Noah's Animal Hospitals as a private business have the resources to do so. Luckily in our community, we have the human society that can do this. Please do not confuse financial necessity with lack of compassion. Compassion is the number-one factor that drives us in our work. If you could see our doctors and staff at work you would understand how deeply they care about what they do and how much they care for the pets and families who come to them for help. Thank you for taking the time to care for a lost dog who needed you. We wish everyone was as compassionate as you are.

There when you need them

I love Noah's Animal Hospitals mostly because people are so helpful, knowledgeable and kind but there are other bonuses that brought be there in the first place. Namely, this location, at 56th and Emerson is open and has a doctor available 24 hours a day all year long. Everyone knows medical problems do not usually happen during the day. They also watch my dog when I go out of town and no matter what time of the day my plane arrives I can pick up my Reese Dogger on the way home. I would and do recommend Noah's to anyone who needs a good place to take their pet.
