One of my favorite places to visit in Atlanta. It's a beautiful museum with some amazing art. They have great programming for families as well.

Every 2nd Sunday is free admission...Family day. How could you not enjoy an afternoon at the High? There are always family oriented activities. It a chance to get your children interested in the arts early in life. Always a good time to be had.

Every Sunday, from 1-4pm, the Woodruff Arts Center offers free family programming as part of their CREATE series with the Woodruff Arts Center. Now is a great time to go because many of the activities are centered around the art work of children’s author, Eric Carle, in celebration of the Eric Carle exhibit. The family activities are a lot of fun and really creative. At a recent event, my daughter’s made light-up fireflies, caterpillar headbands, and flowerpots-all in the theme of Eric Carle characters. It’s a great way to bring the exhibits to life for kids.

One of my favorite places to go on a Friday night when they do Jazz. Great experience every time and cool exhibits that change regularly so you never have to get bored. Beautiful pieces are featured there regularly and it is right in Downtown Atlanta.

I find the permanent collection in the old wing a bit stale but the rotating exhibits can be quite impressive. The organization does a great job of bringing a great variety of exhibitions so that you'll find something to suit your taste. And the architecture is worth seeing on its own.

good but limited in genre

The high museum is a good place for traditional, "safe" art exhibits, and good for tourists and a place you would bring your family. Don't expect to see much contemporary art or avant-garde here, though the new addition has more space for that. Still they seem to limit their high-profile exhibits to impressionism, or highlights from the louvre museum, when some might prefer to see more local art, work by artists of color, folk art, or progressive pieces. But if you want traditional art, it's good; and the architecture is nice as well.
