For Mobile, Pro Health probably is the best, but it's lacking in so many ways. Machines are not well maintained or cleaned. There is no equipment suitable for people with lower spine issues who are working to rebuild muscles to support their spines. The leg press, which is essential for this muscle work, is a bush league design that will actually cause lumbar spine problems. They have lots of equipment, however, if you have specific needs be sure their machines are suitable for you. Try out machines before you join. The extremely poor ergonomic designs of some equipment is not always obvious until you discover the equipment is not useful for you.

ProHealth refuses to keep the temperature hot enough in the whirlpools for members who need to use it as part of their physical therapy regimen. Despite many requests by members, who need the heat for their health, they continue to set it so cool that it's not helpful at all.

Compared to excellent quality clubs in cities with more stringent health regulations, ProHealth is not clean; I have friends who will not work out there because of creatures swimming in the therapy pool, grime in the showers, dirt often floating in the ladies whirlpool, and floors that rarely look clean. When I had to use the therapy pool for a couple of months, I would get out with tiny bites/bumps on my legs; sometimes insects can be seen jumping around in the water.

There are some staff who are quite knowledgeable and helpful and some who act like civil service drones. It's tragic that there is no real competition for ProHealth because they can get by with being unresponsive to member needs, for now. Many members would flee from ProHealth if a spotlessly clean gym with appropriate and well-maintained equipment and a quality professional pool facility was available in Mobile.
