General Info

Wabash Valley Power Association is a generation and transmission cooperative based in Indianapolis, Ind., that provides wholesale electricity to 27 distribution systems in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. In turn, these distribution cooperatives supply electricity to more than 325,000 retail members. Wabash Valley owns 156 MW of the Gibson generating station in southwestern Indiana, 160 MW of the Vermillion station in Cayuga, Ind., and is a 50 percent owner in sgSolutions. Nearly 77 percent of the retail customer base resides in Indiana, with approximately 14 percent in Illinois and close to 10 percent in Michigan. The association was formed as a wholesale power-purchasing cooperative in 1963 by five local distribution cooperatives that were looking to work together to improve their overall buying power in the electricity marketplace. Wabash Valley does not have stockholders, but is instead privately held by its members. The association is also a founding member of Touchstone Energy.
